Last Friday and Saturday, contractors worked to repair a small section of the WWII-era runway aboard NAS Jax.
“It’s an old runway, covered in old asphalt so we inspect it daily for ‘pop-ups’ – those are cracks or pieces of asphalt that de-laminate to expose the sub-base beneath the pavement,” explained Winston Rogers, NAS Jax assistant airfield manager.
“When damage is found, we immediately take the necessary steps to repair it.”
